Building a Central-level Recipe or Product Specification

To build a central-level recipe or product specification

  1. Create a new property.

  2. Expand the new property, right-click Specification Variables and select Add New Specification. A new, editable field appears under Specification Variables.

  3. Type in the name of the new specification variable and press ENTER. Specification variable names must be unique within a given property.

  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each new specification variable.

  5. Right-click Characteristics and select Add New Characteristic. Characteristics are roughly equivalent to products or formulas. A new, editable field appears under Characteristics.

  6. Type in the name of the new characteristic and press ENTER. Characteristics must unique within a given property.

  7. Right-click the new property and select Enter Specifications for <property name>. The Pick Transaction dialog box appears.

  8. Type in the name of the new Transaction. Transactions are used to document specification changes so it is a good idea to provide a descriptive name.

  9. Click OK. The Specification Management window appears.

  10. Click the Add Products and Characteristics button. The Characteristics dialog box appears.

  11. Select one or more characteristics from the Unloaded list and click the Move Selected button to load the selected characteristics.

  12. Close the Characteristics dialog to return to the Specification Management window.

INFORMATION: The variables are color-coded. Central specifications have a green background. Unit-level specifications have a grey background. Corporate specifications have an orange background. If a specification value has been overridden, it will be yellow.

  1. Type in appropriate specification values. Changes to specifications are highlighted with a blue foreground color.

NOTE: To expose limits other than the target, select the Specification Toolbar button.

  1. Select the appropriate toolbar icon to show or hide a particular limit. Note also the Testing Frequency can be exposed with the Test Frequency button.

  2. After the appropriate specification values have been entered, close the Specification Management window. The Confirmation dialog box appears.

  3. Click Yes to approve the transaction. You may approve the transaction later by clicking No. Pending transactions can be found in the Pending folder within the Transactions folder.

  4. Enter a date for the transaction to take effect in the Effective Date field.

  5. Click OK to approve the transaction, and put specification changes into effect.
